A motor vehicle accident that witnesses say was sparked by road rage has two people facing criminal charges in Wisconsin Dells. Police say a woman driver suffered a head injury when she was dragged by a vehicle along U.S. Highway 12.

Police received a report that an injured woman was lying in the road near Riverside Park at about 4:45 p.m. on a Monday afternoon. Officers arrived to find a bypassing motorist tending to the car accident victim.

According to witness interviews, the accident victim had been involved a road rage incident. The Lake Delton woman apparently was driving southbound. Observers claim she purposely pulled in front of another vehicle.

The woman driver allegedly stopped her car in the roadway, got out and had a confrontation with the male driver of the other car.

As the driver started to pull away, the woman allegedly grabbed onto the car and was pulled alongside the vehicle as it moved down the highway. After about 20 yards, the woman fell away from the vehicle and struck her head on the road. The car continued along U.S. Highway 12 southbound and left the scene.

The accident victim was hospitalized. Police found the driver of the car that drove away.

Charges are pending for both motorists. The driver she intercepted on the highway is expected to be charged with felony reckless injury. The Lake Delton woman may face charges as well.

Wisconsin Dell police say the accident victim and the male driver could face further charges at the conclusion of the police department’s investigation. The woman’s medical condition is unknown at this time.
