Two people passed away in a tragic accident in Wisconsin on Wednesday, August 1. The wreck happened in Juneau County.
According to reports, traffic on I-90 started to slow down right around 1:30 in the afternoon. However, a tanker truck apparently did not slow down in time, and the huge vehicle plowed into the back of the cars ahead of it on the interstate.
All told, the Wisconsin State Patrol claimed that a motorcycle, two sport utility vehicles and three semitrucks all got involved in the accident. One of those trucks then burst into flames, causing police to shut down the westbound lanes entirely.
Agencies that responded to the wreck included the following:
- The New Lisbon Fire Department
- C.L. Chase Towing and Recovery
- New Lisbon EMS
- Zeman’s Towing and Recovery
- The New Lisbon Police Department
- The La Crosse HAZMAT Team
- The Mauston Police Department
- The Juneau County Sheriff’s Department
An accident like this can be utterly devastating, as the vehicles that have slowed down may be stuck in traffic and completely unable to avoid the crash. Those drivers may also never see it coming when they are paying attention to the road in front of them. All it takes is a split second of inattention from the driver at the back of the traffic jam to put multiple people in the hospital. In this case, those injuries turned fatal.
If you do get involved in an accident like this, or if you lose a loved one in a serious wreck, make sure you know about all of the legal rights you have to seek financial compensation.
