The National Transportation Safety Board Chairman recently testified about the agency’s investigation into a much publicized accident from June 2014. The accident involved Tracy Morgan, a comedian and television personality, and several of his friends. The crash also involved several other vehicles and a big-rig truck.

During the investigative testimony, the NTSB reported that driver fatigue was a factor in the crash. They noted that the driver of the big rig involved in the accident had been awake for over 28 hours when the accident occurred. The driver reportedly spent all night driving to a Wal-Mart distribution center before beginning the haul that would end in the accident.

Other individuals involved in the accident were not without some fault for the severity of the injuries, says the NTSB. The individuals in the limousine were not wearing seatbelts, the NTSB says, which exacerbated the severity of the injuries.

Even though there were other safety factors in the accident, Tracy Morgan was able to reach a settlement with Wal-Mart regarding his injuries. The truck driver is also facing charges related to the accident, including charges related to the death of at least one person during the accident.

You don’t have to be a celebrity to seek compensation following a serious accident. If you or a family member has been involved in an accident where a truck driver or trucking company could be liable for your injuries, you can seek compensation for things such as medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Understanding how to identify all possible defendants and filing a lawsuit through the right channels are just some first steps in the process.
